The Jack Cut: What's the deal with that big chunk of wood chopped out of the top?

The Jack Cut: What's the deal with that big chunk of wood chopped out of the top?

What is the Jack Cut and why did we put it in our guitars?

In the UK there's a yeast extract product called Marmite that you typically spread on toast. They market with the tagline "you either love it or you hate it" - because no-one is ambivalent about Marmite. People either love it or they hate it. No middle ground.

For the record, Marmite is delicious and people who hate it are weird. And it seems like one of the signature design features of our guitar, The Six, has that Marmite effect.

That feature is something we call the Jack Cut - the triangular chunk of wood chopped out of the top that plays host to the output jack.

We designed it that way so that your guitar cable is channeled up towards the strap button, so it can loop over your strap to keep it safe from accidental unplugging or other damage. We also think the way the Jack Cut breaks up the line of the top wood is interesting and unique looking.

But not everyone agrees - and that's okay. So we decided to make the jack cut a customizable option on the Six. Hate it? No problem, opt to have no Jack Cut for a more traditional look.

Check out the Jack Cut and all the other customizable options on The Six now.

Have it Your Way

Build Your Dream Guitar

We believe that guitars are an extension of the musician that plays them and that the player should be able to have a guitar as unique, bold, and one of a kind as they are.
